Women

My routine every morning is checking my email as I drink a cup of coffee before starting my day. One of the emails I receive daily is from NPR. I usually just skim over the title of the articles, however on this particular one at the very bottom was a story highlighting the new album Women by violinist Esther Abrami. Intrigued I opened the article to read her interview. When Esther graduated, she realized that all the 100's of pieces of music she played were composed by men. She went on to research women composers and created a very moving album titled Women.

The one composer that struck me was Ilse Weber, she was a Jew living in Czechoslovakia when the Nazis occupied the country and sent her and family to a prison camp.  When her husband was sent to Auschwitz, she and her son went with him to keep the family together.  She sang songs to the children and elderly in the camp. It is said that Ilse sang to her son and many other children as she accompanied them voluntarily into the gas chambers.

The lullaby Wiegala by Ilse has been transformed by Esther in this moving violin piece which brought me to tears.

The article included snippets of music in the NPR live interview listen here

Needless to say, I purchased the album and played it this morning.  As the music played the fish in the tank perked up and all three of my cats gathered in the living room as if they were genuinely interested in listing to the music with their ears twitching.

On another note:

I have this thing that happens in my brain. When I listen to music, REALLY listen to it, I can see colors bouncing and busting around to the notes of the music in my mind.  Something else happens when I listen to music played by an orchestra or on strings, as the notes are played, I can see a colorful, choreographed ballet unfold as the song goes on. The graceful hand and arm movements as the ballerinas glide across on pointe, jumping and turning and legs kicking in the air. in their beautiful tutus.  I become emersed not only to music but to the faceless, colorful dancers in my head.   With this album, Women, I was brought to tears, and I was also moved by the ballet in my head.  I wish I could actually see this ballet on stage, to be choregraphed by a woman, with all the music from the album Women by Esther Abrami.   Can you just imagine this as a ballet?

I missed the entire year of posting 2024.........So here is a 2025 update!

Well, so much has happened during 2024.  I had agreed in late 2023 to take on a corporate account for dispositions in a different city, which was within an hour up to a 2 hour trip each way. I was the only person working it, and I accommodated my schedule to travel 2 to 3 days a week and work infront of the computer the rest of the days...... I was working an average of 10 - 12 hours each day and was so stress and overwhelmed that I felt anxiety that I have NEVER felt in my life!!!! OKAY so all things work out because as I was working, I was paying off parent student loans that I thought were going to follow me and my husband to the grave.  I still have a bit to payoff but it is no longer in the six-figure range.. I was responsible, I didn't buy a little bungalow by the beach, I didn't go crazy and buy a new car or anything like that.  Yes, I did go out to buy all new clothes because I stress ate, I am premenopausal, so yeah, I grew out of my existing wardrobe.

Things have since calmed down, but it took me a few months to recover. Toward the end of last year they hired someone to help for that territory. Needless to say, I am now fulltime, back in my own city working, the workload is lighter (so are the paycheck's :), and the driving is much less.  Unfortunately, the extra weight has stuck to me though...

Since 2024 was a blur, I will highlight some great things that have happened in 2025!

Biggest highlight was that my daughter got married!  It was a very small dinner celebration with the parents and two witnesses.  They plan on a reception for family and friends sometime in 2026.

Great news is that my youngest son is back in university to finish his degree, and his girlfriend got accepted to nursing school.

My oldest son is doing good with his little family, and I enjoy spending time with them.  They actually came over to my house to celebrate his girlfriend s birthday which was so sweet!

I took 8 weeks of Saturdays starting in January and became a certified End of Life Doula.  I volunteer every Sunday for a few hours at ABODE which cares for the dying without any cost to the family running 100% on donations.  In turn I also worked on a mosaic Life in Bloom that will be auctioned off this Saturday and 100% of the proceeds will go to ABODE, this particular piece was my therapy to de stress while creating it. It took me from October-to last day of January to complete. I worked on it in the evenings, and it really let me escape the day.

I have also created some cutesy little mosaics that are currently being sold at a local coffee shop util the end of this month.
